INTRODUCTION

These release notes describe the features and limitations for the NTB software version 8.

We recommend that you read the NTB Users Guide for an introduction to using the NTB.

Note: It is not possible to update NTB40, NTB50, NTB60, NTB600, NTB605 or NTB4000 models to V8.

The NTB must be updated to V7.4.2 before updating to V8.

The following improvements have been made:

Problems fixed:

• Fixed: HTML Player handles XML documents in any encoding.
• Fixed: Problem with tuning American ATSC TV.
• Fixed: Anti-Aliased text is shown correctly.
• Fixed: HTML zones of size 400x300 show correctly.

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

• HTML Player does not support Java Applets.
• HTML Player cannot access FTP resources.
• Touch in protrait mode only works over part of the screen.
• Presentation (Powerpoint) Zones may incorrectly pop up over other Zones.
• There is a limit to the total amount of text that can be drawn by a single Text Item.
• The Web UI has some minor display issues under Windows Internet Explorer 6 (Mozilla Firefox, Windows Internet Explorer 7 or Windows Internet Explorer 8 do not have these issues).
• When uploading files using Apple Safari it is not possible to show a progress bar.
• Windows version 4.0.4 of Apple Safari: When the NTB reports errors to the user Safari will hang. Use another browser until Apple fixes the problem.

The following improvements have been made:

• Ad hoc Themes allows the messages and logo images seen by Ad hoc users to be customised.
• Ad Hoc input changes:
  • Input can be Rich or Plain text
  • Input can be limited in size. E.g. No more then 20 characters.
  • Input can be validated as an integer. E.g. A number between 20 and 80.
  • Input can be validated against a "Regular Expression" pattern.
• New HTML Player:
  • Based on latest WebKit technology as used by Apple's Safari browser and Google's Chrome browser.
  • Brings HTML5 features to the NTB.
  • SVG support
  • Background of HTML page can be transparent.
  • HTML page can be zoomed from 10% to 1000% of original size.
  • Local Adobe Flash content can be trusted to access resources cross-domain. Setup on the Players page.
• Tables can now have a transparent border and background.
• Backup and Restore all media and settings on the NTB using an external USB disk. Windows formatted disks are supported.
• Web User Interface improvements:
  • No restriction of file naming. By using Unicode for filenames the NTB can support names in every language.
  • Image Thumbnails shown on Play list and File Manager pages.
  • Drag-n-Drop files from your desktop directly into Play lists and File Manager.
    This feature is know to work with these browsers:
    • Firefox 3.6 for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
    • Google Chrome 4.1 for Windows and Google Chrome 5.0 for Linux.
    • Mac OS X version of Apple Safari 4.0.5.
    
    Neither Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera or the Windows version of Apple Safari support Drag-n-Drop.
  • New TV Status pages show useful information about Digital TV.
  • Layout Editor remembers the position of the zone properties dialog and the layout zoom factor.
  • Screen Setup page has been improved.
  • Screen Status page has been improved to show connection state and screen serial number.
  • system Status page will show CPU and DISK temperature history.
  • Users with Layout Editor permission can be resticted to accessing individual layouts.
  • Options page has been impoved. Commonly used options are now at the top of the page. Added user control of Thumbnail feature.
  • Users page has been improved. User permissions names no longer include "Access" in their names.
• XML Web services allows HTML and Flash to access features on the NTB including:
  • Advance To command.
  • Request Player Local Information.
  • Send and receive RS232 messages.
  • GET or POST external Web resources.
  • Fetch Ad hoc text and Ad hoc tables content.
• TV Setup has been improved.
• Security Improvement. The NTB Web Interface will use the secure Digest authentication rather then the weaker Basic authentication used in previous versions. Updated NTBs will need users passwords to be reset to enable this security feature.
• Maintenance menu improvements:
  • Create a Support Snapshot command.
  • Restore an NTB Backup command.
• Weather Widget will use the XML Services HTML Proxy when it is defined.
• Support NTB620 and NTB625 models

Problems fixed:

• Fixed: Video tearing issues.
• Fixed: Lip Sync for American TV.
• Fixed: LDAP support for new User Permissions.
• Fixed: Support FTP servers that do not implement the STAT command.
• Fixed: Problem accessing files with spaces of "%" in their names.
• Fixed: Image player now correctly handles geometry overrides.
• Fixed: Player Local Information is matched ignoring case of the text.
• Fixed: Handling of True Type and Open Type Fonts with alternative face names.
